Character Design and Construction 101 1.5 Hours

What will be taught?

You will learn how to design original characters from concept to final illustration, focusing on anatomy, proportions, facial expressions, and personality development.

What topics will you cover?

Introduction to Character Design: Understanding what makes a character memorable and engaging.

Shape Language & Silhouette: How shapes convey personality and character traits.

Anatomy & Proportions: Basic anatomy for believable characters, and how to exaggerate for style.

Facial Expressions & Body Language: Capturing emotion and personality through poses and expressions.

Costume & Accessories: Designing clothing and props that reflect your character’s story.

Color Theory for Character Design: Using color to enhance personality and mood.

How is your class structured?

Lecture & Demonstration: Brief lessons introducing key concepts, followed by live drawing demonstrations to illustrate techniques in real time.

How will you teach?

I will use a step-by-step approach, starting with the basics and building toward more complex aspects of character design.

You'll have plenty of opportunities to practice along with me during the demos and apply the concepts through personal projects.
