US Grade 5 - 9
Personalized reading and writing instruction in fiction and nonfiction by certified teacher. One-on-one instruction is determined by the following criteria: (1) concerns of caregivers and learner, (2) issues that may present themselves in the sessions, and (3) skills needed to be developed by learner to advance to the next level. 

These classes are scheduled by request; notify teacher to arrange a time for on-going and individual class sessions.

Reading Strategy Lesson Topics: 

Pre-Emergent and Emergent Readers; Teaching Reading Engagement (Focus, Stamina, and Building a Reading Life); Supporting Print Work (Increasing Accuracy and Integrating Source of Information); Reading Fluently (Reading with Phrasing, Intonation, and Automaticity); Supporting Comprehension in Fiction (Plot, Setting, Characters, Theme, and Ideas); Supporting Comprehension in Nonfiction (Determining Main Idea(s), Idea(s), and Key Details and Getting the Most from Text Features); Improving Comprehension in Fiction and Nonfiction (Understanding Vocabulary and Figurative Language).

Writing Strategy Lesson Topics:

Composing with Pictures; Engagement: Independence, Increasing Volume, and Developing a Writing Identify; Generating and Collecting Ideas; Focus/Meaning; Organization and Structure; Elaboration; Word Choice; Conventions: Spelling, Grammar, and Punctuation

Reading Strategy Sessions: book of interest; suggested but not required are post-it-notes, pencils, and a notebook 

Writing Strategy Sessions: paper/pencil though a writing notebook to keep brainstorming notes, word choice, etc. is recommended.
