No one is sure how it happened, but both dogs and cats have developed the ability to talk, calculate, and realize just how big the world is and how much they want to see it. Trained as barbarians, bards, clerics, druids, fighters, monks, paladins, rangers, rouges, sorcerers, warlocks and wizards, they have ventured into the world in search of Animal Adventures. Will you be among them? In this on-going roleplaying class, students will choose or create their own Awakened Animal character to participate in a number of adventures and quests at various locations. From the Catacombs to the Isle of Dog, these trained dogs and cats must use spells, weapons, and their wits to defeat such dangerous foes as goblins, zombie rat, wererats, and shapeshifters to accomplish their missions. But do you have what it takes to face down a skelly cat or a wrathbone? Only time will tell. PowerPoints are only used for location details, non-player character descriptions, and combat maps, the rest of the sessions spent in verbal descriptions and interactions: the Narrator (Teacher) will verbally describe scenarios the awakened cat or dog characters (Players) face followed by turn-taking as each explains in detail what their cat or dog attempts to do in the traditional role-playing style. Companions will be sent upon registration with pre-made dog and cat characters for learners to use as well as detailed instructions and character sheets for those who wish to create their own from scratch. Time is allotted to discuss and/or discuss any situations that arose that needs either discussion or clarification. Students may, however, need to pause in the middle of a scenario and continue it the following session. Please note that the characters in this game are armed with swords, daggers, and spells and, as such, mild violence may be used to vanish evil opponents to complete the missions successfully. Caregivers who are uncomfortable with their learners pretending to use weapons should refrain from the class. **** **** The above picture was purchased for Shutterstock (Standard License).

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Janie. I am a graduate of Charleston Southern University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and History, and was certificated in Elementary, Early Childhood, and Early Childhood Special Education. As a member of Learning for Justice, I am up-to-date on current issues and best teaching practices in order to align my classroom to inform accurate details in a fun learning environment where children and youth feel respected, valued and welcome participants. In my 15-year career, I have worked with children aged one to ten. I believe that children do not care what you know until they know that you care, and that real learning occurs somewhere between laughter, smiles and mess.
The goal in my sessions is to engage students in topics of their interest through discussion, storytelling, and creativity to encourage authentic learning of the material and an appreciation of others. Questions and comments as well as topic-related pictures, items, and other creative means are always welcome. I LOVE to crochet and I have a passion for Science-Fiction/Fantasy, history and all things Warrior Cats.
