Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
These highly energetic and interactive 25-minute lessons will have your learner excitedly waiting for the next one! That has been the experience with these lessons delivered on the Outschool platform to many students by Teacher Kitty.

This class catches the children while they are young and ready to have fun singing the songs that skip count and laughing with the funny dogs they get to choose from. Each week the first half of class time is dedicated to reviewing all of the tables and songs learned so far so that new students joining in feel at ease and simply start learning and being part of the fun from day one.

Here are what parents and students are saying:
"My seven-year-old first-grader son really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. The key is the continued participation and building upon each week’s work (My son did the full 3-month cycle). He had barely begun learning his times tables when he started and is now very comfortable with them (1-12). He wasn’t entirely aware that he was learning as such, and that seems to be part of the point of the class design, which uses rhyme, song, and video. I was surprised (and impressed) to see that the class had covered square and cube roots toward the end, and when I randomly asked my son a cube root from one of the class handouts, he knew it off the bat. When I asked him how on earth he remembered that, he said, “The songs are just stuck in my head.” Success! And bravo to Teacher Kitty. Clever, fun, and EFFECTIVE class."

"My daughter loves this class! It has been very helpful for her confidence. She’s a perfectionist, and doesn’t like to show what she can do unless she’s 100% confident she can do it. The singing, friendly competition and camaraderie, and fun dog stuff take the pressure of demonstrating her math facts off of her. Also, the songs have absolutely helped her memorize the times tables and she sings them all the time."

"Wonderful class. Teacher Kitty puts a lot of time and creativity into her classes. My son learned so much." - Ms. B

"The little characters and pictures were awesome! ... I saw your class on Outschool. It was so cute and adorable." -- Karen

"Really good teacher, and we immediately signed up for the next two classes in the series." - Maria

"Great and informative class with a very energetic and friendly teacher!" --Catherine

"It was my youngest daughter's (age 9) first experience with an Outschool class, and I wanted to make sure it was a good one so she'd be willing to do more. She thoroughly enjoyed the class, so mission accomplished." - Kristen

Mikey takes your child on adventures that create enthusiasm for the topic being taught. In these ongoing classes, new students can jump in at any time because each lesson is designed to teach students just being introduced to the material effectively while providing challenge and delight to the student who can feel great about displaying his/her mastery. Students are encouraged to model support for one another as they cheer each other on!

At the end of each week, learners get to trade showing their multiplication skills off in a skill runoff with seeing dogs show off their skills at the "Dawg Pawty".

The great thing about both multiplication skills is that these are skills that kids can jump in on at many different grade levels, these skills are needed and applicable for many years to come, and they are fun to work within a group setting.

The lessons will cycle through 3 months of multiplication tables before starting over for the next run. Your learner can jump in at anytime because anything from previous lessons are reviewed at the start of class in a fun set of songs we sing. For parents who want their learners to have a more slower paced introduction to ease them into the grove, we cover the same content with an introductory pace in our Thursday 2:30 PM NYT session. That session will trade some of the high energy and the funny dog tricks for more careful attention to the multiplication charts so that they can feel confident to ease into the faster momentum classes.

The entire series is so fun for students and taking the classes consistently is what builds the skills. I love the ongoing class structure because parents and put their learners in at any point and have their learners quickly up and running. I make sure the beginning of each class has a quick review of all facts learned so far so that new students are oriented.

I will make sure the class has at least 5 students before we. begin, so if you sign your learner up, be prepared that we may wait on the start to gather the right amount of students. Having only a couple of students takes away from the fun of learning together. I usually find by a few weeks we will have almost a dozen and that becomes very fun!
Learning Goals
Your student will be able to recite the multiplication tables through the 12's along with the squares, the cubes, the square roots, and the cube roots.

Parental Guidance
Please note that children who are five years old are permitted to enroll, but please be cognizant of the maturity level of your student and whether they are able to manage multiplication and skip counting. Your learner should have some familiarity with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Please know that nearly all kids enjoy the laughter and singing and especially the dogs, so don't feel that your learner will not enjoy jumping in mid cycle. These classes are designed to be a low pressure but effective and fun way for kids to get those facts well established in their minds without even realizing they are learning bc they are having so much fun. As a parent, I encourage you to consider your student's learning style. If you recognize that your learner has high anxiety over coming into a class where the other kids may have been there a few weeks, consider beginning them near the first half of the cycle of lessons.
