Writing Tutoring for High School Students

This one-on-one tutoring hour can serve different purposes depending upon the needs of the student. We can meet to work with school-assigned material or, alternately, with lessons I create that will be designed to tap into the student's areas of challenge. 

I tailor sessions to fit student need and can establish regular tutoring sessions or work intermittently, when the student is in need of extra support. While these sessions will be uniquely designed to fit the needs of each individual family, the focus of the work will be on developing comfort and skill with writing. My approach is methodical, accepting and patient. 

I begin by determining the areas that need the greatest focus for a student--whether it be organization and sequencing of ideas on paper, detail and development, sentence structure and punctuation, or a combination of these--and guide the student in practice and strategy-building in these areas. I work with students through the full writing process, beginning with brainstorming and note-taking, moving to outlining, then to building developed, well-sequenced paragraphs, and, finally, to the proofreading and editing process.
