Homework
I can assign homework for students to work on between classes upon parent request.Assessment
I do not use formal testing as I find that it often does not work well for neurodivergent learners. I will be informally assessing throughout the class and will keep parents or guardians up to date on how their student is progressing. I can assign letter grades upon request.Grading
includedClass Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 12
This is an ongoing, one on one tutoring class. I am dyslexic myself as well as having other learning disabilities. Because of this, I developed a passion for working with students who have some of the same struggles that I did growing up. My lived experience along with my over 10 years of teaching experience combine to give me a unique understanding and ability to work with students to find methods that work for their brains instead of against them. Topics that I can cover with your student include but are not limited to: Letter recognition Letter sounds Sounding out words Letter blends Reading comprehension up to a 6th-grade level I have experience tutoring students in reading and reading comprehension up to 6th grade. If you have other topics related to reading that you would like me to cover please message me and we can discuss whether or not it is something I can do. I also know that different learning styles work for different students. I have a variety of teaching methods that I use, including methods for auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners. Please let me know a little bit about your student after signing up, including their strengths and weakness in reading, what topic you would like us to focus on first, and their learning style. If you haven't found out their learning style yet please let me know that as well and we will try some different techniques to find out what works.
Learning Goals
Students will work on and improve skills related to reading and reading comprehension. We will focus on learning how to work with our unique brains instead of against them.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have over 12 years of teaching experience. This includes being a private tutor, a classroom aide, a sewing and craft teacher, and a preschool teacher. I graduated from the College of Southern Idaho in 2017 with my associate's degree in special education. I have 10 years of experience working with special needs children and 5 years of experience working with autistic children in various capacities. I believe that all of this, along with my own personal experience as an autistic, puts me in a unique potion to be able to understand children on the autism spectrum and help them to reach their full potential.
I have tutored students with various learning disabilities in reading and math up to 8th grade. I have done tutoring on and off over the years but have about 5 years of tutoring experience in total, the most recent being in 2020 on Outschool.
