Parental Guidance
The House at the End of Magic is a fantasy adventure with themes of mystery, magic, and personal growth. Parents should be aware of the following elements:
🔮 Mild Fantasy Peril – The main character, Nine, faces magical dangers and must outsmart dark forces. These moments are suspenseful but not overly scary.
🏚️ Orphaned Main Character – Nine starts the story as a struggling pickpocket in a harsh world. While the book touches on poverty and survival, it is handled in an age-appropriate way.
✨ Magic & Spells – The story includes magical elements, curses, and enchanted objects. Magic is portrayed as both a powerful tool and a responsibility.
💬 Encouraging Discussion – Some themes, such as friendship, trust, and choosing between right and wrong, may inspire deeper conversations. Parents may wish to ask their child about what they’re reading and how they relate to the story.
This class is designed to be age-appropriate and engaging for upper elementary students, encouraging a love of reading and critical thinking in a safe, supportive environment. Let me know if you’d like any adjustments! 😊
Pre-Requisites
Students will be most successful if they are reading at a 4th grade reading level or higher. If a student is struggling to read the chosen book at the class' pace, I recommend using audiobooks, read alouds, or shared reading to help!
