In this book club, students will read, discuss and analyze both classic and contemporary books. Classics are those books that readers love, share, and always remember! The books chosen for reading compel thinking, relating, and great discussions! Studies have shown that it’s not only the books we read but also the act of thinking rigorously about them that’s of value, exercising the brain in critical ways. In this book club, learners will connect with and discuss exciting characters, settings and ideas. I strive to create a safe and relaxed space for my learners. I adore literature and feel it is invaluable for learners to gain knowledge, feel understood, and find new perspectives. These books teach readers that they are not alone through the universal themes of family, friendship, loyalty, and empathy. The classics enchant our imagination, exercise our minds, and enlighten our souls. In each meeting your child will engage in discussions about the chapters assigned for that session. This involves a thorough examination of various literary elements such as the plot, characters, setting, point of view, and vocabulary. This approach is designed to enhance their understanding of the book. We will spend two weeks to a month on each novel. I provide optional culminating activities in the classroom. These activities are designed to bring together and reinforce the learning that has taken place. They are optional, so your learner can choose to participate if they feel comfortable and ready. This approach allows for flexibility and caters to different learning styles and paces. Learners may also participate a fun interactive Kahoot! to check for reading comprehension. If you don't see a book club that suits your schedule, please feel free to send me a request with a time that works better for you and your learner. I look forward to seeing your student in the book club! As a licensed teacher specializing in Reading, I have had the opportunity to support and engage students with diverse learning needs. My experience has enabled me to develop a strong understanding of different instructional strategies to ensure that all students have the skills necessary for academic success. I am passionate about creating a positive classroom environment that is both supportive and engaging, where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas and participating in discussions. With my expertise in Reading instruction, I strive to help each student develop a lifelong love for reading while achieving academic goals.
My passion is literature. I believe stories make concepts more palpable to children. Stories can teach readers valuable lessons, make them laugh, and see things from a different perspective, or take them somewhere new!
When I have time, I like to travel, experience different cultures, and learn the history of people and places. I am also an animal lover! I have two dogs, have worked with animal rescues, and fostered cats and dogs for years.
If you are interested in a class and don't see a time that meets your needs, please send me with your time request. I look forward to meeting your learner in class!
