Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Intermediate Level
In this book club, students will read, discuss, and analyze both classic and some contemporary books. Classics are those books that readers love, share, and always remember! The books chosen for reading compel thinking, relating, and great discussions! Studies have shown that it’s not only the books we read but also the act of thinking rigorously about them that’s of value, exercising the brain in critical ways.
In this book club, students will connect with exciting characters, settings, and ideas. I strive to create a safe and relaxed space for my students to share.
I adore literature and feel it is invaluable for learners to gain knowledge, feel understood, and find new perspectives. These books teach readers that they are not alone through the universal themes of family, friendship, loyalty, and empathy. The classics enchant our imagination, exercise our minds, and enlighten our souls.
In each meeting, students will engage in discussions about the chapters assigned for that session. This involves examining the various literary elements such as the plot, characters, setting, point of view, and vocabulary to enhance their understanding of the book.
We will spend two weeks to a month on each novel. I provide optional culminating activities in the classroom. These activities are designed to bring together and reinforce the learning that has taken place. They are optional, so students can choose to participate if they feel comfortable and ready. Learners may also participate in a fun interactive Kahoot! to check for reading comprehension.
If you don't see a book club that suits your schedule, please don't hesitate to send me a request with a time that works best for you. I hope to see your learner in the book club!

As a licensed teacher for over 30 years, I have had the opportunity to support and engage students with diverse learning needs. I strive to create a positive classroom environment that is both supportive and engaging, where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas and participating in discussions. My goal is to help each student develop a lifelong love for reading while achieving their academic goals.
My passion is literature. I believe stories make concepts more palpable to children. Stories teach students valuable lessons, empathy, and to see the world from different perspectives.
When I have time, I like to travel, experience different cultures, and learn the history of people and places. I am also an animal lover! I have two dogs, have worked with animal rescues, and fostered cats and dogs for years.
I hope to see your learner in class!
"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world, and the love of books is the best of all." ~ Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
