Math Talks: Building Number Sense and Confidence Through Number Talks

Learners in this class will enjoy a lively 30 minute debate style discussion centered around a different creative math activity/topic each week. Learners will have the opportunity to think independently, share their thinking with the group, and defend their thinking using mathematical strategies and vocabulary with support from classmates and from the teacher. Respect for each learners ideas and thought processes will be emphasized throughout each class session.

Week 6 (Week of 12/16/24): Which One Doesn't Belong - With a Twist (Mathematical Properties)
Week 7 (Week of 12/23/24): Dots, Dots, Dots (Mental Math, Number Sense, Equations)
Week 8 (Week of 12/30/24): Shapes, Shapes, Shapes (Geometry, Equations)
Week 9 (Week of 1/6/24): Target Practice (Equations, Order of Operations)
Week 10 (Week of 1/13/24): Fraction Action (Fractions)
Week 11 (Week of 1/20/24): Fraction Action 2 (Fractions - Going Deeper)
Week 12 (Week of 1/27/24): If We Know..Then We Know...Because (Number Sense / Mathematical Reasoning/Multiplication)
