Learning about fractions by eating candy? What could be better! Students will be introduced to the definition of fractions as part of a whole using various shapes. After learning fractions using shapes, they will then learn fractions as part of a whole using a grouping of objects. We will complete the class using candy colors to read and write fractions. The fraction type will change as we eat some of the candy. If your child does not prefer chocolate, he/she may set the candy to the side...
Child will learn fractions as part of a whole in shapes as well as groups. They will learn how to read, as well as write, basic fractions.

Since this is an introductory course, and students are young, the assessment will be informal.Grades Offered
1 file available upon enrollmentStudents will need a bag of at least 40 plain M&M candies. At least ten should be brown. Please do not substitute candy unless the same colors are represented. This class is dependent on the color of the candy. Students will also need a small white board with marker or paper and pencil as well as a small container. Let me know if you have questions or if your child does not like or cannot eat M&Ms so we can find an appropriate alternative.
