Master Math: Fractions - Add, Subtract, Multiply & Simplify

In this multi-day course, students will learn, review and practice all crucial and required topics of 5th grade and 6th grade fractions and fraction operations, including adding fractions, subtracting fractions, multiplying fractions, improper fractions, equivalent fractions, mixed numbers, unlike denominators, estimating fractions, whole numbers, scaling, comparing and estimating. At the beginning of class, the students and teacher will have a discussion about the topic(s) of the week so...
- Master Fraction Operations: Students will learn to confidently add, subtract, and multiply fractions, building a strong foundation for advanced math concepts.
- Understand Fraction Types: Students will distinguish between and work with improper fractions, mixed numbers, and equivalent fractions, enhancing their overall fraction comprehension.
- Handle Unlike Denominators: Students will practice adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, mastering the techniques to find common denominators and simplify results.
- Develop Estimation Skills: Students will learn to estimate fractions and scale whole numbers, improving their ability to make quick, accurate mathematical judgments.
- Compare and Analyze Fractions: Students will compare and order fractions, developing critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze and interpret fractional values in various contexts.
This curriculum was developed by and used with the permission from Ms. Ashley, an SBA teacher. Ms. Ashley graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in both education and mathematics. Later, she went on to also earn a TESOL teacher’s certificate. She has taught over 10,000+ virtual classes in all subjects over several years on different platforms. She has 18+ years of tutoring/teaching experience, both virtual and in-person, as well as 16 years+ of experience as a volunteer teacher, tutor, and coach in schools and classrooms. In addition to teaching, Ms. Ashley is part of curriculum development and review team for an online ELA and math teaching/tutoring company, where she also serves as a Learning Partner and Academic Advisor for incoming students. Other related experience includes ELA and math tutoring the University of Connecticut Student Center, substitute teaching in the public school system and working for five years as a Financial Controller of a litigation support firm with offices across the United States. Ms. Ashley truly values each and every student, and she hopes to help them to find a love of learning.
