In this, one time private trial class, will evaluate students current reading fluency level, comprehension level, and spelling level, identify areas of strengths to establish a baseline, areas of improvement and provide feedback for success. 

The goal is for the student to have the vital tools, guidance to have the ability to process written text, understand its meaning, and to integrate with what the reader already knows.  The skills required for good spelling reflect those required for successful reading and writing.  The teacher will examine a misspelled word to find out why the student originally got the spelling incorrect, due to an error in patterns, phonemes, rules, or syllables.

Through these informal assessments the teacher can provide useful information as to skill level, goal setting, and where to begin.
