Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
If you're curious or concerned about your child's reading abilities, this class will provide you with answers. As a trained reading specialist with a graduate degree in reading instruction, I have the experience and resources necessary to assess your child's reading level, fluency, and comprehension skills. After my session with your child, I will provide you with a written assessment outlining their test results, as well as my observations and recommendations. Educators use reading assessment information to guide instruction, and we know that students are more successful when they continue to read text that is "just right" for them. The information that you receive from me will guide you in helping your child reach their reading goals!

Although the purpose of this session is to assess your child, I realize that test-taking stress can negatively impact student's performance. I will make every effort to make this experience fun and comfortable for your child. In order to ease them into it, I'll begin with a fun read-aloud and gradually transition into comprehension assessment. In the Qualitative Reading Inventory section, students will read a specific text and I will assess their accuracy, pace, and prosody. I will ask them to give me a retelling of the text to assess their overall comprehension level, and then ask a series of comprehension questions to assess their ability to infer, question, summarize, and clarify information.

Before our session, I require a brief update from you on your child's current reading habits and any information that you have about their reading level. If your child prefers to read on paper, I can send you the testing documents for you to print. Otherwise, all reading will be done on their screen.
