Touch Typing for Neurodiverse Learners: A Multi-Sensory Orton-Gillingham Approach In this Orton-Gillingham Method of multi-sensory adaptive self-paced typing course for students with Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia, ADD/ ADHD and Autism, teaches typing skills while thoroughly reinforcing phonics to improve their reading and spelling skills. Typing is a skill that students with Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia, ADD/ ADHD and Autism should master because of the increased amount of writing assignments students are required to complete. Keyboarding is such an important skill – you don’t want your kids hunting and pecking. The course starts with students learning to touch-type, read and spell the vowels - a , e , i , o , u. The audio track accompanies the letters as they appear on screen, reinforcing sound-letter correspondence, which is a crucial skill for sounding out words in reading. The student then receives their first score - and success! Our approach to touch typing / keyboarding is: First students must learn the proper techniques & ergonomics of typing, next we emphasize accuracy to create the muscle motor learning and last is speed. All students want to type fast, however the speed will develop as we learning the proper techniques and create muscle memory. M O D U L E S Modules: 734 modules, covering 4,000 words including punctuated sentences. Level 1: Introduces and names the vowels a, e, i, o, and u, then moves on to combine vowels and consonants into three-letter words. Levels 2 and 3: Use consonant clusters combined with vowels to highlight patterns of sounds and graphemes. Levels 4 to 12: Introduce vowel digraphs and simple spelling rules of the English language. Levels 13 to 20: Include less common spelling patterns and more complex spelling rules, including rules for suffixing and prefixing, and the structure of syllables. Levels 21 to 24: Include homophones, silent letters, countries, names, and more advanced suffixing and prefixing. Assessments: 24 spelling assessments, one for each level, consisting of 20 random words introduced in that level. Who is Touch Type Read Spell for? Touch Type Read Spell is designed for students of all ability levels who can benefit from typing lessons with added literacy support. The course builds keyboarding, reading, spelling, and pronunciation skills and can also be an effective intervention for students with learning difficulties. N O T E T O P A R E N T S: Please make sure you check your messages and follow the instructions provided. We do share our screens during class, so you may have to split the screen for the student or show them how to toggle back and forth between zoom and the typing program on the web. Please make sure you can view and access BOTH the Zoom window and a web browser window during the class session. You can set up your computer in a “split-screen” format and toggle between Zoom and the browser with typing program OR you can use 2 devices (one for Zoom and the other for typing program). 📌 Camera Policy: To ensure proper typing technique and provide accurate feedback, cameras must remain on for the duration of class. This allows me to observe hand positioning, posture, and key usage to support your progress. If accommodations are needed, please contact me before class. Private 1:1 class and Mutli-Day class options are also available. If you are interested in one of these class formats, please send a message.
