"Phonemic Awareness refers to the ability to understand that words are made up of sounds. More specifically, phonemic awareness includes identifying and manipulating sounds in words."

"Phonics concerns the relationship between the sounds and written letters in a word."

In this class, your child will practice both phonemic awareness and phonics so that they may work towards become fluent readers.

Each class will present students with a word family. For example words ending in -at.

Students will practice letter sounds of 'a' and 't', work on pronouncing 'at', and move through other (rhyming) words that have the same ending including: mat, cat, fat, bat, sat.
