Science is a seven-letter word that covers many different disciplines. In this class, we will take a look at five different disciplines of science and learn about the scientists behind the scenes. Example: Your child loves bugs. Exciting! Well the study of bugs is entomology and a scientist that studies bugs is an entomologist. Entomologist work in nature but they also have a place in the laboratory. In fact, when I worked at a state laboratory in food science, there was an entomologist on the team checking for bugs in food products like flour. Wow! I use Powerpoint style slides, photos, and short videos to help children connect the science to the scientist. What scientists will we look at? I will pull from the list of scientist below. You may make a request for a specific scientist - at the time of enrollment (not after). **{This is not the order} 1. Entomologists 2. Virologists 3. Chemists and/or Biochemists (My professional field of study) 4. Botanists 5. Zoologists 6. Paleontologists 7. Biologists 8. Geologists 9. Astronomists 10. Meteorologists 11. Psychology 12. Toxicologist This class is for K-2nd grade therefore much of the information with be taught at that level. Photos and videos shown will be age-appropriate. If there is enough interest, we can look at more scientists - in another session of this course. Homework will not be assigned; however, I provide worksheets and resources for children to dive deeper into what they have learned at home. To participate in this class, students should be capable of engaging in online classes for short-periods with minimum disruptions **Please ensure students have play-doh, paper, pencil, and crayons.
