Let's Be Logical and Find the Fallacy
Class experience
In this class we will discuss the meaning of logic and logic fallacies. Each week students will learn about a new fallacy (red herring, ad hominem, tu quoque, equivocation, composition and division and straw man). Students will be given scenarios (real and made up) to spot the logic fallacy. Classes will be lively and engaging discussions.

Week 1Lesson 1Introduction to Logic, Fallacies, and Red HerringMy lesson is about defining and understanding logic. We will talk about what is the meaning of fallacy and start looking at the first fallacy - a red herring. Students will be given a chance to hear an argument and spot the red herring.Week 2Lesson 2Understanding Ad HominemsWe will review the words from the last class and then introduce the new fallacy: ad hominem. Students will hear arguments and spot the fallacy (red herring or ad hominem).Week 3Lesson 3Understanding Tu QuoqueWe will review the words from the last class and then introduce the new fallacy: tu quoque. Students will hear arguments and spot the fallacy (red herring or ad hominem or tu quoque).Week 4Lesson 4Understanding Ambiguity and EquivocationWe will review the words from the last class and then introduce the new fallacy: equivocation. Students will hear arguments and spot the fallacy (red herring or ad hominem or tu quoque or equivocation). We will also define and discuss the meaning of ambiguity.Week 5Lesson 5Understanding Composition and Division FallaciesWe will review the words from the last class and then introduce the new fallacy: composition and division. Students will hear arguments and spot the fallacy (red herring or ad hominem or tu quoque or equivocation or composition or division).Week 6Lesson 6Understanding Straw ManWe will review the words from the last class and then introduce the new fallacy: straw man. Students will hear arguments and spot the fallacy (red herring or ad hominem or tu quoque or equivocation or composition or division or straw man).
Students will be able to list and define the six fallacies. Students will be able to provide examples of each fallacy. Students will be able to locate the six fallacies when given examples.
