Class Experience

Students who have enjoyed solving the riddles in my Deductive Detectives class will enjoy this 4 week class. Each class will have a new mystery to solve as these "detectives" put on their detective hat (literally or figuratively) as they try to crack the case before the time runs out. Each case will get slightly harder as they improve their thinking skills each week. Students can dress up as their favorite super sleuth or make up their own sleuth they want to be.
Week one the case is called Broken Glass. Week two the case is called In a Fix. Week three is the Awesome Arson. Week Four the case is called Ship Gyp. Students will work together as a team, asking yes/no questions to discover the solution to the riddle. It will be an informal and lively conversation. They will solve the riddle by the end of class. If times allows, they could bring their own cases and let myself and the other students solve their case.

Learning Goals

Students will solve a case (aka riddle) by asking yes or no questions.
Students will use critical thinking skills to ask questions.
Students will work together as a team to solve the mystery.
Students will refine their questions ask they work to narrow down the solution.
Students will have fun solving the riddle.

Hi! I'm teacher Veronica. I've been teaching for over 20 years. I’ve taught in both brick-and-mortar classrooms as well as online. I’ve been homeschooling my children since they were in kindergarten. I LOVE to memorize. I started memorizing large passages in 2010 and it's become an addiction with me. I'm offering classes that teach students how to memorize using classic poems. Not only does your child walk away with a poem memorized but more importantly he/she is learning a life-long skill of how to memorize and retain the passage. I'm also enjoying creating classes on problem solving. In these classes, students enjoy solving a mystery, but more importantly I'm teaching them how to think critically and ask questions. I'm laying a foundation of what problem solving looks like and how it can be used in our every day lives. My husband and I lived in Alaska for 18 years with our three children. We now reside in Michigan with our kids, one cat and one dog. One of my favorite things to do is walk around our neighborhood with my husband and enjoy the beauty. In Alaska we even walked when it was -30 degrees.
