Memorizing Is as Easy as Walking Around Your Bedroom: Poetry Memorization
In this one time class, students will memorize the poem "There was an Old Man with a Beard" by Edward Lear using a trick that they can then apply to any passage they need to memorize.

Description
Class Experience
Students memorize "There Was an Old Man with a Beard" by Edward Lear. Students will learn a memory trick using "locations" in a basic bedroom to help them remember the order of the poem. Students will recite the poem aloud to classmates and teacher. Students will be encouraged to recite the poem after class to a family member or friend. Students will brainstorm other poems or passages they want to memorize. Students will list "locations" in a bedroom they can use to help them memorize longer passages. Students will learn the names of the birds listed in this poem and identify them in pictures.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner will be encouraged to recite poem at the of class to fellow students and teacher as well as encouraged to recite to a family member or friend after class.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
