Lego Duplo Young Builders and Book Club

Does your child love to build with Lego Duplo blocks? Duplos are the perfect blocks for early builders and this course is designed specifically with little learners in mind!

This is an ongoing course that will meet weekly to build and share centered around a theme.  Please see the schedule below for themes and if you have a particular theme or build your child is interested in, please let me know! 

Each week, we'll explore a theme based around a short and fun picture book. We'll have fun with our story together, even engaging your child in reading skills like making predictions and connections.  Learners will have a chance to share their favorite part at the end of the story. If your child has a favorite picture book, please feel free to reach out to me as I love pairing books, playing, and learning! 

Additionally, I'll also add in some simple rhymes or songs to accompany our weekly theme. As an experience teacher, librarian, and mom, I love to sprinkle in a little learning with whatever we do!  I will help guide your little learner with ideas, if needed, during our building time. If your child has a favorite book or "theme", feel free to let me know and I can always try to work that in our weekly meetings! 

Then your learner will have time to build his/her own creation related to our theme of the week. Then learners will share the creation made and I'll be there to model public speaking and how to listen and ask question when it's not your turn to share.  It's a great for your learner to practice skills like good listening, fine motor skills, and even focus and creativity! 

 By structuring the class as an ongoing class, you'll learner will have the opportunity to meet and build with a variety of children, some whom may come on a consistent basis. 

Week of May 19th 

Week 1 - underwater/ocean themed build (submarines, boats, fish, sharks, etc)
Book: The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark

Week 2- farm based build (tractors, animals, barn, etc.)
Book: The Cow Said Neigh

Week 3 - mazes - design your own maze with Duplos (helpful if you have a Duplo base/board)
Book: Sam and Dave Dig A Hole

Week 4 - fun with the alphabet (building your own creation, with emphasis on what letter your creations begins with)
Book:  LMNO Peas and/or What About X?

Week 5 - spring/summer theme (anything related to spring/summer)
Book: TBD
