Are you looking for a way for your child to practice and learn about writing? Perhaps you have a child who loves writing or is a reluctant writer? Either way this class is a great way to help your child develop and strengthen their skills as we focus on sentences and grammar. This class was created as an additional course to my popular writing class, Pencil Pack. Many writers wanted to continue past the set of lessons created in the original course. The good news is your child can take...

As a teacher, librarian, and mom of 3 little ones, I know how important it is for children to learn the art of writing. It is often an area that can be a challenge for students and I really love teaching writing. With my experience as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher, I work to include a variety of opportunities that help develop writing skills. Part of being an educator is working with students to cultivate a love of writing! Throughout my time as a classroom teacher as well as my work as an elementary school librarian, I know writing is an area which impacts all areas of learning. It is an important skill to develop in learners to help them express and communicate their thoughts and ideas. Beginning with the basics of writing (sentences) helps build the foundation for students to expand their writing to longer pieces, such as paragraphs and stories. I am a Nationally Board Certified Teacher and also hold a Master's in Reading which help me always implement best practices when teaching! I love to incorporate stories and share my passion for reading in everything I teach. During this course, I will include some great books related to writing topics covered in the class. Additionally, I was chosen as my county's Teacher of the Year and am always working to better enhance the learning experience for all learners! I hope your child will find the class upbeat, engaging, and a way to connect to others to share in the fun of writing!
There is no given homework for this class. However, I will provide a weekly "challenge" to allow your child to continue practicing the week's focus. It is an optional writing assignment for your child. If your child completes the challenge, please have send it to me via Outschool and I will provide feedback on his/her work.
Your child will need pencil/paper to write in our class. However, if your child would like to use a whiteboard and dry erase marker, that is also a way to write and participate in class. If your child has any accommodations specific to learning and/or writing, please reach out to me so I can best work with your child.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
