This class is designed for students in 5th, 6th and 7th grade. In this class, students will learn how to find the least common multiple (LCM) for a set of numbers and will learn that the LCM is used when creating equivalent fractions. The teacher will model how to find the LCM using a skip counting method and prime factorization. Students will have the opportunity to practice find the LCM for a set of numbers and practice creating equivalent fractions in order to add and subtract fractions. Prerequisite skills needed: Understanding of prime numbers.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to find the least common multiple for a set of numbers and understand that the LCM is used when adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.
