Beginner - Intermediate Level
This class is designed to address grammar standards for 4th grade but will be a great skill builder for students struggling with grammar. The standards are based on Texas and national standards for learning. Each unit is expected to take one to two classes, but the timing may be shifted to accommodate learners. Classroom Experience: Information will be presented in a lecture format most often. For each unit, there will be opportunities for practice and interaction during class. External websites (Kahoot!, NearPod) will be used during some class for an interactive learning experience. Students are expected to post to classroom discussions and respond with corrective and/or confirmatory feedback to at least one student’s post when prompted. Each week, a communication will be posted in the classroom for learners and their parents with information relevant for the upcoming unit. Units will be taught in the following order: Unit 1 : Verbs & Nouns Nouns - singular, plural, proper (week of 11/5) Verbs - present tense, past tense, irregular (week of 11/12) Unit 2: Apostrophes - Possessive singular nouns (week of 11/19) -Possessive plural nouns (week of 11/26) Unit 3: Pronouns (week of **) - including reflexive Unit 4: Adjectives (Week of **) - including comparative and superlative forms Unit 5: Adverbs (Week of **) - that convey frequency and degree Unit 6: Complete Sentences ( week of **) - Identifying complete sentences and fragments - Subject and Predicate Unit 7: Combining Sentences - Use of coordinating conjunctions to combine sentences with compound subjects or predicates - Creating compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions and commas Unit 8: - Complex sentences Unit 9: Capitalization - historical periods - events - documents - titles - languages - races - nationalities Unit 10: Dialogue - Proper use of commas and quotation marks when writing dialogue Unit 10: Prepositions and Prepositional Phrases - What is a preposition? - Identifying and using prepositions and prepositional phrases *** This class is NOT a class that focuses on paragraph or essay writing. ***
