In one week campers go from zero to hero learning basic ukulele chords and at least one song! We will go at flexible pace to match the learners as they learn to play ukulele in a week. No prior knowledge is needed. #creative

What's included

4 live meetings
2 hrs 20 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Homework will always be to review. Since we have days between class I suggest they run through the chords on off days. Music is very often a "use it or lose it" situation.
Assessment
Learners and parents will get a clear report of what skills the student mastered, what was difficult for them, and (if applicable) what the class didn't get to.

Class Experience

Beginner Level
This class is for students who own a ukulele but don't know much about it. We will cover the parts of the instrument and some major chords, learn how to put those chords together, master basic strum patterns, and learn how to play one song all the way through.

This course will go at the pace of the learners in it so below is an example of what the three days of class might look like but we might slow it down or speed through it and learn extra chords and songs.

Day One: The Basics
Parts of your instrument
How do you like to strum?

Day Two: Learning Chords
What kind of songs do you want to be able to play? (allows me to pick the best song for the group to learn)
Learning to draw and play chords

Homework: review your chords!

Day Three: Let's Play A Song
Discovering songs that use G C Am and F
What's a strum pattern?
Learning the strum pattern for a song (ex. Riptide, I'm Yours)
*potential to learn and draw additional chords if the song requires them

Homework: review the song!

Day Four: Song Day 2
Questions? Review what was tricky and gain confidence in playing the song
Learn Another Song? If time allows learners can start another song. Some examples of songs we have been learning include Fireflies by Owl City, Riptide by Vance Joy, or Let it Be by the Beatles.
Share Out! Students can play the song we learned for each other, parents and friends can come check them out too!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my page! I am a professional actor and a summer camp counselor who teaches ukulele to kids of all ages. I also offer classes for audition prep, scene work, and bullet journaling!

I have worked as a counselor at camps around the United States for over eight years with kids of all ages physically and developmentally. I have experience working with groups as well as teaching one on one, and so here on Outschool I offer both small group classes and private lessons.

As an actor, director, writer, and producer, I have worked on murder mysteries, children's theater, short plays, musicals, and voice acting in video games, immersive theater, and podcasts.

I value an inclusive learning environment so no matter your identity or background--I want to make art together! Every student can learn a new skill, learning should be fun, and no questions are too silly.

Parents feel free to message me if you'd like me to schedule a session on a specific day or time! My inbox is always open!

FUN FACT: My favorite musical is Les Mis, so much so that my cat's name is Gavroche.
