Description
Class Experience
Students will develop a strong vocal and performance technique and expand their repertoire of songs so they can become the performer they want to be. They will also gain confidence from singing weekly and build their toolbox of tools so they can sing and perform any song armed with the knowledge they learn in class!
Melanie Leibner Perkins holds her Masters in Musical Theatre from Boston Conservatory and BA from University of Pennsylvania. She is an adjunct faculty member at Nova Southeastern University and runs Perkins Performance Studio where she has taught hundreds of students to sing to their full potential. Students have gone on to perform internationally and star in national tours as well as study at NYU, Boston Conservatory, PACE, Elon, Shenandoah, Penn State, and more. She has distinguished herself as an actress, singer, director, and teacher with her work in theatres in Philadelphia, Boston, and South Florida. As an instructor, Melanie has taught for over 20 years, teaching voice, acting, audition prep, monologue, scene study, and improv to students aged 4-74!
Students may be sent video, audio files, or pdfs with exercises they can utilize at home. Students can choose to use these on their own for personal growth - no graded or formal assignments. Students should ideally practice for a minimum of 20 minutes 4 times a week. You get what you put in. Everyone has different time constraints so this is just a suggestion for ideal practice.
Students need to set up Zoom, preferably in Music Mode. Students can choose to sing a song acapella or with a backing track in class. Students who want to sing with accompaniment should also have another device like a tablet, phone, or speaker on which they can play their tracks.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
