Learn to Read Level B (Section1)

This interactive class will introduce students to 2-3 new sight words a week.  We will read stories with these sight words that your child can access at home to allow for additional practice.  We will practice writing, reading, and making short vowel words.  During these lessons, your child will have an opportunity to read, write, and learn beginning reading strategies.  We will be using Raz-Plus for our books, which you will have access to at home.  I have over 20 years of experience teaching new and struggling readers. 
Students should be familiar with letters and letter sounds and show signs of an emergent reader (interest in books, writing, and reading).
Lesson 1: We will read "Maria and Her Teacher," by Elizabeth Strauss.  We will spell and make short /i/ words and be introduced to the digraph /th/. 
Lesson 2: We will read "Under My Bed," by Anthony Curran.  We will spell and make short /a/ words and review the digraph /th/.
Lesson 3:  We will read "Trucks," by Marvin D. Bodner.  We will spell and make short /i/ words and be introduced to the digraph /sh/.
Lesson 4:  We will read "You and I," by Elizabeth Strauss.  We will spell and make short /i/ words and review the digraph /sh/.
Lesson 5:  We will read "We Pack a Picnic," by Alyse Sweeny.  We will spell and read short /i/ words and review the digraph /ch/.
Lesson 6: We will read "Stop that Cat," by Edie Evans.  We will spell and make short /a/ words and be introduced to the digraph /ck/.
Lesson 7:  We will read "Things Made of Wood," by Elizabeth Jane Pustilnik.  We will spell and read short /i/ words and review the digraph /ck/.
Lesson 8: We will read "What Flies in the Sky," by Edie Evans.  We will spell and make short /u/ words and review the digraph /ck/.
In these 8 lessons, we will cover the following sight words in a variety of books: and, her, is, one, that, my, under, for, it, some, I, the, you, are, from, some, a, we, good, the, long, out, up, be, can, of, day, on, what.
