Class Experience

The purpose of this is for students to learn how to use house-hold items like shaving cream and food coloring to create unique and beautiful marble-styled stationary.
We will cover how to prepare a work space, create a marbleized pattern, and draw calligraphy onto the marble designs.
After this one-time class, students can use their newfound skill to continue making personalized stationary on their own!
After brief introductions, I will demo and we will go step-by-step and craft together, and end by showing our favorite finished pieces.

Please assist your student with collecting supplies before the class.
Supply List
Blank white (or light colored) cards envelopes, shaving cream (not shaving gel), liquid food coloring, ruler, one straw, sharpies or paint markers for calligraphy, paper towels, a place mat or sheet of parchment/wax paper, and large dish (like a pie tin or baking pan) large enough to fit stationary in. The dish is for spraying the shaving cream into.
Optional: Scratch paper, masking tape, gloves, and a pencil.
I suggest the learners set up at a place with a large table space to do the project, and for the stationary to dry. I also recommend the learner wear clothes they don't mind getting food coloring on.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Ms. Melissa.
I enjoy teaching painting, and other arts and crafts. I used to teach an in person crafting club, and I thought it would be amazing to craft with people all over the world at Outschool too!
I am currently continuing my years of professional art study at California State University Northridge, and am pursuing a career as a full time highschool teacher.
My goal as a teacher now and in the future is to create a fun and encouraging learning environment for students to de-stress and use their creativity.
Thank you, and I hope to see you soon!
