IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is a continuous 48-week course that operates in a rotating fashion. The classes are self-contained, meaning learners can join at any point during the 48-week cycle. After covering all 48 topics, the course will reset, starting from week 1. The course will remain open continuously; it will not be closed. If you previously unenrolled but did not complete all 48 weeks and wish to rejoin, please verify the topics and dates covered below to ensure that your learner does not repeat a class. Furthermore, upon successful completion of all 48 weeks of this course, learners will receive a certificate of completion. Feel free to contact me to notify me when your learner has completed the entire course. In this ongoing, flexible course, students will delve into the captivating world of astronomy. Each week, they will explore a new aspect of space-related topics. This course is a perfect fit for space enthusiasts who relish expanding their knowledge of astronomy. I will employ photos and brief video clips in a slideshow to enhance engagement and facilitate knowledge retention. Each class will primarily consist of lectures, with opportunities for discussion and student questions actively encouraged. No prior knowledge on the subject is necessary. Occasionally, I will provide an optional worksheet in the classroom for the learners to complete. This will be a great review on what was taught during class. Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary
Hi! My name is Cristina and I am an Astronomy and Meteorology teacher. I have been an educator for over a decade, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Christian Ministry with a minor in Psychology and Counseling. I am a certified severe storm spotter for both the National Weather Service and the Spotter Network, and am proud to be a NASA Social alumni. Additionally, I serve as a Solar System Ambassador for NASA/JPL, allowing me to share the latest astronomy events with my community.
In my role as a science communicator, I've had the honor of sharing space-related updates for numerous years, affording me the opportunity to distribute information about space across various social media platforms. Additionally, I was selected by Lockheed Martin as a space influencer for the OSIRIS-REx asteroid mission. These experiences have not only enriched my understanding of current space developments but also enabled me to impart this knowledge within my Outschool classes.
Science, particularly Meteorology and Astronomy, have always been a passion of mine and I strive to make learning about it enjoyable for students.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy reading books, playing the piano, solving jigsaw puzzles, and baking cookies. I look forward to teaching your learner in the classroom!
