This ongoing weekly class will include direct instruction and/or modeled instruction for students to focus on at least one animation (2d or stop motion) related activity each week. This is a class for students ages 8-12 that would like to learn more about the process of creating animations. Each student will work at their own pace during each class. As the teacher, I will provide direct instruction, verbal feedback/encouragement, and I will model various techniques. Since each class will include a separate animation related activity (activities will not build upon each other- instead, each class will help students practice or learn new techniques/styles/animation apps), we will be able to explore a number of topics, techniques, and general practice as the weeks continue on. We will plan to cover separate topics each week that may include creating flip books with various materials, practicing 2d drawing (in a variety of styles), storyboarding, practicing clay sculpting/wire armatures, understanding animation apps, etc.. As long as the minimum number of students is reached, this class will remain ongoing through the week of May 10th, 2022. At that point, it will be assessed as to whether the class will continue further into 2022 or not. This class will have a break around Christmas (last class before break-week of 12/16 and next class after break week of 1/6). Please check out the materials sections below to see what will be needed for this class (supply needs may expand as we continue through the year- I will plan to update you at least 4 days before if we arrive at a week that needs new/further supplies). Any handouts will be available before the day of each of the classes for you to print out. My teaching style is one of creativity and patience. I am a certified art and special education teacher. I have experience working with a variety of learners. I look forward to your child joining this class!

Parental Guidance
For specific armature classes, students may need parental assistance with wire bending. Also, parental guidance required to set up any recommended animation app.
Supply List
Main supplies: pencil, looseleaf paper, sketchbook/drawing paper, colored pencils/markers, Stop Motion Studio App on a separate device, FlipaClip App on a separate device, something to prop device on so that you can shoot the animation directly above the table/flat surface (maybe two stacks of books, two plastic cups, or two boxes that are the same size). You will be updated ahead of time when these will be needed for specific classes/sessions: coins to animate with (a couple of coins- any kind), cardboard for backgrounds, play-doh, wire, stapler, paint for backgrounds, sand and/or glitter/dirt, food items/kitchen items to animate, legos/blocks, Optional: Stylus to use with ipad, Tripod with ipad attachment for use while taking animation stills, (any handouts that need to be printed out will be available at least the day before each class)

Hello, I'm Mrs. Kelly! I teach a variety of fine art, language arts, science, and special education/struggling learner classes on Outschool! I have been been teaching and tutoring for 14 years now. I received my postgraduate education and teaching experiences in both the United States and the United Kingdom. I have had great success with my students, ranging from elementary school to university level, and non-traditional students. I have taught students in general education and students that receive special education services. One of my greatest strengths is finding creative approaches to enable all students to progress in their learning.
I have been teaching since 2006. In various teaching and support capacities, I have worked for educational businesses, educational non-profits, in public schools, and at a University. I am a certified art teacher (elementary through high school). My current certifications include art, language arts, science, K-8 social studies, elementary education, and special education. I truly believe in my students. I leave room for my students to surpass all expectations that anyone has ever had for them. I love to support and congratulate my students along their learning journey.
My education includes a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art from Atlanta College of Art. I spent time studying abroad in France. I spent a semester creating art and studying in New York City during my undergrad time. I completed a postgraduate course in experimental video in Owega, New York. I received my Master's of Arts (Fine Art) degree from the University for Creative Arts in the United Kingdom. Upon returning to the USA, I completed all of my postgraduate coursework in special education (at Piedmont College in Georgia) and gained my public school teaching certifications. I have exhibited my own painting, drawing, sculpture, and collage artworks around the world. I have received a number of education and exhibition awards, including the Gene Alcott Award.
On a more personal note, I spend my time outside of teaching practicing yoga, learning French, traveling, researching a variety of topics, visiting parks, watching films, reading books, photographing nature scenes/animals, and creating artworks.
