I will provide a handout with the vocabulary used in class after the lesson. I have found that students pronounce French words better if they do not see them written down first. Also this will give me the opportunity to add unusual pets and animals to the list for each class.Assessment
I will provide verbal feedback during the lesson and brief written feedback after the lesson.Class Experience
I will teach the names of animals in response to the students’ interests. Common pets and more unusual ones can be included. I will model sentences so that students can tell the class what their pet is called, how old their pet is, if their pet is big or small, what colour their pet is etc. This will be a good introduction to the use of il/elle and possibly ils/elles. As it is a One-Time lesson, I will not stress the grammar aspect. We will also talk about farm animals and wild animals, according the learners' interests. We will play Animal Lotto, Guess the Animal and sing a song or songs about animals. Students will be encouraged to ask each other, and me, questions about their pets or the animals they are interested in. Well behaved pets are welcome to make a brief appearance in the class if this is not too disruptive. This class is suitable for students at any level of language learning, as I will model the language and provide visual prompts/clues.
Learning Goals
Students will extend their use of vocabulary about animals and have fun learning about other people's pets and animal interests.
