Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Intermediate Level
PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT FRENCH! I AM ENGLISH AND HAVE LIVED AND WORKED IN FRANCE AND BELGIUM. I SPEND TIME AT MY HOUSE IN FRANCE, WHERE I JOIN IN WITH FRENCH VILLAGE LIFE.

This class is for students who already speak French well and want to keep skills sharp/improve their French with other students at a similar level. We will discuss a range of topics almost entirely in French. Some miming etc may be involved! I may use a little English if all else fails.
The classes will be interactive, but may have less singing than my usual classes, unless the learners want to sing, of course!.
Each class will have some information about French life and culture.
Students are welcome to have a good quality dictionary to hand - tiny dictionaries will not be helpful. We will use the present tense, the passé composé and the future tense (je vais + infinitive) and occasionally the imperfect tense and the conditional tense in the classes.

Week of 26th August : Qu'est-ce que tu as fait pendant les grandes vacances? We will talk about the things that we did during the summer.
Week of 9th September: La rentrée! French children are going back to school this week. What subjects do they study in school? Which subjects do you study? Which subjects to you like? etc. Each learner will prepare a mini lesson in French to teach the rest of the class next week.

Week of 16th September. NO CLASS, as I will be travelling to France. Learners can take this time to prepare their conversations for next week's class.
Week of 23rd September: European Day of Languages celebrations. Learners will teach the rest of the class simple conversations in another foreign language they know well.
Week of 30th September: Les pays francophone. An introduction to countries around the world where French is the official, or one of the official, languages.
Week of 7th October: We will have mini-lessons in French!
Week of 14th October: Introductions and conversations. What do you like to know when you meet a French speaking person? How to arrange to meet up at various places in town.
Week of 21st October: Our favourite French/francophone things. When you visited France, Québec or another French speaking country, what did you like most? Was it an items of food, the people, interesting places???
Week of 28th October: Special days at the end of the year.
Learning Goals
Students will have the opportunity to speak in French for a whole lesson and to listen to others speaking in French. I will offer scaffolding of sentences for students if absolutely necessary! We will use a range of tenses in class.
