Have you ever wanted to live in ancient Greece? The Greeks had numerous gods and many stories and myths that surrounded them. Greek mythology consists of all the stories and tales about the Greek gods, goddesses, and heroes. It is also the religion of Ancient Greece as the Greeks built temples and offered sacrifices to their major gods. Greek mythology is not only interesting, but it is also the foundation of allusion and character genesis in literature. Learning Objectives: After completing the lessons in this unit, students will be able to: -Understand the Greek view of creation. -Identify the names and key features of the Olympian gods/goddesses. -Create their own god/goddess. -Create their own myth explaining a natural phenomenon. Learning process: WEEK 1 -2: Introduction to greek myths . What is myth for Greeks? How important are gods and goddesses. GAME : what mythical Greek are you ? The Olympian Gods:Learn the gods and goddesses. Learn figures and symbols. GAME : interactive matching game -identify gods and goddesses symbols. Role -playing simulation games WEEK 3-4:Hero/Heroine myths- learn about heroes and villains- Invent your own mythical hero Mythical creatures and their role in Greek history WEEK 5:Create your own god/ goddess and make your own myth Hopefully myths inspire you, too, because you are about to create your own myth! As you know, myths were often used to explain natural phenomena. Your challenge is to create your own myth to explain some natural phenomenon or land formation. It could be anything from the origin of hurricanes to how the Grand Canyon or a mountain range was created. You will tell this myth in a story format. ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY TO GREEK MYTHOLOGY.....

I have a BA degree in English Language and literature and an MA in TESOL. I have been teaching English to young children , teenagers and adults for 20 years .
