Class Experience

🍁Welcome to "I Don't Know What to Write" Creative Writing | Halloween Edition! 🍁
I could not be any happier that you are here. I love to write and share my love of writing with others. I am so excited to get started, and I hope you are too! In this 4-week class, we will be writing Halloween stories together. Let the spookiness begin!

Each week, students will have the opportunity to work on their writing in a fun, laid-back environment. Teacher assistance will be available to all students during independent writing time. A certain level of independence is required, but I am always available to help any student at any time in class.

Students will work on one story from beginning to end, from brainstorming to the final draft. Ideas and support are never in short supply in this class. The students and teacher will work together each week to continue writing, polishing, and improving on their stories. During independent writing time, I will conference with each student in the class so we can discuss their writing and potential ways for them to improve.

Weekly Focus:

No prior experience or knowledge is required to attend class. Come as you are with a pencil and a notebook, and you'll be set! It is my goal to create a fun, interactive learning environment. I believe that when children have fun, they learn the most. I love to learn and teach. I strive to make each of my classes as interactive and as encouraging as possible. Thank you for your interest in my class, and I hope to see your learner in the classroom!

                                     ⭐️⭐️Some Important Class Reminders⭐️⭐️
⭐️Video check-ins: Part of keeping our learners safe means mandatory video check-ins at the beginning of every class. Each student will be greeted individually. Although they may feel free to keep their camera off during the class, they MUST open their camera at the beginning of class so I can verify learner identity. Because Outschool (and myself) value learner privacy and safety, there are absolutely NO exceptions to this rule. To learn more about this policy and other ways that Outschool ensures learner and teacher safety, please visit this website: https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/579976-learner-safety-and-privacy-for-parents

⭐️Mute/learner removal reminder: There are times in class when “muting” all learners is necessary. If the need arises to mute a student or the entire class, I will inform the student/class first. If a learner consistently calls out, is disrespectful, or purposefully causes a disruption, I will have to mute them. Under extremely rare circumstances, I may remove a learner from the classroom due to severe and unmanageable behavioral issues. If this occurs, I will reach out to the learner’s parents within 24 hours of the incident to discuss the situation and talk about the next steps.

⭐️Class refund requests: Please use this link to review Outschool’s happiness guarantee/refund policy.

Students should adhere to Outschool's Learner Code of Conduct. Please discuss these policies with your child before beginning their first Outschool class.
Outschool's Learner Code of Conduct:
Be kind: Help all learners feel welcome and included.
Be safe: Keep your personal information private and never ask other learners for theirs (e.g., email address, mailing address, phone number, gamer tags, etc.).
Be respectful: Treat others how you want to be treated.

Learning Goals

Each week, students will have the opportunity to work through the writing process by working on their writing in class. Weekly teacher check-in's and conferencing will help students understand what they can improve upon. In writing, practice really does make perfect. Students will have the chance to build their confidence through their writing. Students will also develop public speaking skills as they share their work with the class.

Other Details

Supply List
Please send your learner to class with:
• Pencil and notebook
• Please remember to bring your story along with you each week. I can't stress the importance of not losing your work. I recommend getting a notebook or folder to store your writing in from week to week.

**Graphic organizers are optional but will always be available. If you can print, please send your student to class with the graphic organizer IF they are beginning a new story that week. If you are unable to print, no worries. We can easily work around it. If you have any questions about what to send your student to class with, please reach out and I'm happy to help clarify.
