In this one-time class, students will observe real insect specimen, learn the names of insect and spider body parts, and compare and contrast the similarities and differences between bugs and spiders.
Class Experience
What is the difference between a bug and a spider? Many people think spiders are insects, but they are not! In this class, we will learn how to tell bugs from spiders by comparing and contrasting qualities of both. We will observe a variety of real deceased insect specimen and note what body parts they all have in common. Then we will see a resin cast of a spider and learn about spider body parts. Students will be able to identify if the creepy crawly they see scuttling in their homes is an insect or spider.
2 files available upon enrollmentTwo coloring sheets will be provided to help learners retain the different body parts of insects and spiders.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
