How Do I Work This? A Beginner's Guide to Working Your Sewing Machine

In this one time course, learners will get a basic overview of their sewing machine. We will go over the basic functions, and learn how to use the manual to become more familiar with each specific machine. We will thread our machines, wind and thread bobbins, change needles, and go through the basic machine maintenance practices that will keep your machine running well. We will practice stitching through scrap fabric, and practice adjusting our tension. If time allows, we will talk through some of the specific features of learners individual machines.
Learning Goals
Students will have a basic understanding of how their individual machine works, and will be able to confidently enter a beginners class confident in the basic skills of operating their machine.

Parental Guidance
Learners will be using scissors, needles, seam rippers and electric sewing machines.
Supply List
Learners will need a full sized sewing machine, and manual, sewing machine needles, thread, bobbins, scrap fabric (woven fabric is best), seam ripper, and scissors.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
