Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
In this Art & Social Club, middle school girls homeschool girls will have an opportunity to make connections and get in that much needed social time that they desperately need and want at this age.

As a former teacher turned homeschool mom, I have noticed that one thing most homeschoolers desperately need and want is that "connection" with other peers their age. They want to feel that they are seen and heard and that there others out there like them. My own middle school daughter has struggled with this exact desire, as did I as a homeschool student many many years ago.

Now, with my teaching background and classroom management experience I can lead a group of students in a structured and safe environment and give them a place to feel heard and seen and a place that they can show off their talents, along with making connections with other peers their age.

Every session we will have an ice-breaker art image, riddle, or would-you-rather type question to start conversations off, but the class session itself will be mostly student-led and student interest based, centered around the arts.

My goal for this group is to provide time for homeschoolers to meet and connect with like-minded peers and to have a place to feel safe in making those connections.

What will the learners take with them after meeting in this group? Learners will begin to realize that they are not alone in this homeschool world. That there are others like them - all over the world, in fact- that are in the same place at the same time, just in a different place on this globe. The learners will gain a sense of confidence and knowledge that they are seen and heard. They will also have an opportunity to make new friends on their level outside of the mainstream school walls.
Learning Goals
Students will learn that there are ways to socialize outside of the mainstream walls, that we can make connections through technology, and that there are many other homeschoolers that are looking to make connections too.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught in the mainstream classroom for 16 years, until finally in 2018 I brought my own kiddos home to homeschool. For the past 6 years I have worked with my own children to homeschool and try to ensure that they are getting all of their needs met. I have noticed through them, and through many of the homeschool groups that we are involved in that one area that many children are longing for is to make connections with other peers their age. They miss that social time. So I have made it a goal to work with young learners to help them find ways to meet that social need and for them to feel seen and heard within a safe and structured environment.
