In this one time cooking class we will gain confidence in the kitchen while increasing our knowledge of history and baking by recreating delicious Viking hazelnut cakes.

Class experience

Learners will know:
A new recipe.
Safety in the kitchen.
Recall the steps in making the recipe. 
How experimental archaeologists use evidence to reconstruct the past.
Hazelnuts (chopped is best)
Honey (runny)
Flour (Barley or rye are most authentic for Scandinavia but wheat was used in the Britain).
Knife (Chef's knife)
Chopping board
Mixing bowl
Frying pan
Wooden spoon/spatula
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Adult guidance is requested/needed in assisting the student in the kitchen as learners will be using items like the frying pan, oven, graters, knives etc.  Families need to notify Vanessa ASAP about any potential allergies - this class includes nuts..  Families are responsible for knowing which ingredients their family can have. Please contact the teacher for any questions.

Please note that this class includes the use of a knives and a frying pan.

In the case that this item is not cooked during the class, a timer will be set. Students are instructed on how to tell if the item is fully baked.
