Read Like a Champion! 1:1 Private Reading Tutoring With Ms. Hazard

Through 1:1 private reading tutoring, I will work to meet the needs of your learner. I come to Outschool with a lot of experience teaching young readers and have several tools that have worked wonders over the years such as guided reading, fluency monitoring, and read-alouds. We will focus on whatever is needed to ensure your learner becomes a stronger reader. I specialize in the following topics: theme, comparing fiction & nonfiction texts, main idea & supporting details, conflict, point of view & perspective, characterization, vocabulary & grammar, spelling, inferencing & context clues, basic writing skills (forming sentences and paragraphs), and proofreading. Students in grades 5-8 are recommended for tutoring sessions with me as that is where the majority of my expertise lies. 

I will use materials that meet your student where he or she is at first. We will get to know each other and work to create 2-3 attainable learning goals. There, we will work on making sure your learner has a solid foundation. As your learner gets more confident and comfortable, we can slowly start to incorporate some more rigorous or challenging material as needed. As our sessions progress, more independent practice may be given or recommended to challenge your learner.

My teaching style and methods include putting the needs of the learner first and building confidence over time. I am very patient, love giving positive reinforcement and praise, and flexible to meet the requests of learners. I openly accept any feedback from learners and families to make sure we are all on the same page.  We will use materials such as slides, videos, games, and different kinds of texts or novels to support us during our sessions. Please let me know if there are certain kinds of texts or books your student likes, as I can try to incorporate those into our sessions.

Prior to our first session, please let me know what your learner's reading level is and what specific skills you'd like to see worked on. We will use digital materials or materials your learner already has. You should not need to supply anything for tutoring.
