This English writing course will cover the fundamental aspects of successful writing. Each week the children will learn a different skill and produce a short piece of work demonstrating that skill. The stimulus for all of the lessons will be Harry Potter. Also, the small class sizes will help children to progress quickly.

During the lessons, children will receive instruction, and then have time to apply this by completing short activities and their own writing. There will be many opportunities for the children to interact and share their work. This lesson is suitable for beginners as each part of the writing process will be guided. Advanced students will be catered for as well through targeted questioning and vocabulary expectations.

There will also be opportunities for short games and brain breaks so that the learning doesn’t get too heavy. At the start of session 1 we will do a Harry Potter show and tell to get to know everyone.

The sessions will look like:

Lesson 1- Sensational Setting Descriptions
Lesson 2- Crafty Character Sentences- Different Sentence Types and Structure
Lesson 3- Crafty Character Sentences - Writing in role about a Character
Lesson 4-Dynamic Dialogue- Speech Punctation
Lesson 5- Dynamic Dialogue - Speech Writing
Lesson 6- ADD (action, description, dialogue) making your writing flow,
Lesson 7- Big write based on a popular scene, including show not tell (This will be a mix of guided writing and independent writing)

There will be worksheets to support the activities uploaded onto the classroom pages. These will be uploaded one week before the lesson. Please print these out for the children to use. (If you cannot print, please let me know and I can adapt the teaching accordingly.)

Please note that as a different skill is taught each week, children can join the whole course or opt-in for the lessons that suit them.

Children will receive a copy of the slides at the end of each session so that they can refer to these for future learning.

If you cannot see a time or day that suits you, please use the auto- scheduling tool or contact me directly and I will try to accommodate your needs.
Learning Goals

Supply List
If children are able to type, the lessons work best using Google Docs, so that I can see what they are writing and edit it with them in live time. Please make sure that you have an account set up and logged on for the lesson.

If children cannot or do not want to type we can easily use pen and paper, but please make sure that it is a dark pen that I will be able to see on camera.

Some printed resources may be required, but I will give due notice of these.
