This Harry Potter themed class is a social group/book discussion centered around our favorite fan theories and speculations! In our discussions, we will use the seven books of the Harry Potter canon to guide our conversations. In doing so, students will not only get to share their ideas with other members of the Potter fandom, but they will apply the useful skill of incorporating text evidence to support an idea about a work of literature. Students should come to class ready to discuss one of their favorite fan theories. Some examples include: ⚡ The Dursleys mistreatment of Harry was the result of being exposed to a Horcrux. ⚡ Harry become immortal after Voldemort destroyed the Horcrux in Harry ⚡ Draco's behavior in The Half-Blood Prince suggests he may be a werewolf ⚡ Ginny Weasley used a love potion on Harry ⚡ George Weasley traveled back in time and became Willy Wonka Some things for students to note: 👍 While both the books and the films can/will be discussed, in situations where the books and the films diverge, the books are the final authority. (e.g. McGonagall sending Slytherin students to the dungeons during the Battle of Hogwarts only happened in the film; in the book, McGonagall evacuated all students, regardless of house, who were underage. She cautioned of age Slytherins that if they follow their parents and choose the side of the Death Eaters, they will be treated as such). 👍 All Harry Potter fans are welcome, even if they have not read all seven books! Just be okay with hearing spoilers.

Master's Degree in English from Lamar University
I am certified in 7-12th grade English, Language Arts, and Reading with ten years of experience in the high school English classroom. I have been an avid Harry Potter fan since the year 2000. That's almost a quarter of a century in the Wizarding World!
Unfortunately, I did not receive my Hogwarts letter due to Voldemort destroying the records of Muggle-born witches and wizards born before 1998 during his second rise to power.
