In this ongoing course, students will practice both single and double digit long division problems. The difficulty level will be based upon the learners who are attending each session. IMPORTANT: Over the summer, I will be revamping my course offerings and plan to only teach FLEX classes through OS next school year. I will be spending my time homeschooling a high school aged daughter, and this is new terrain for me. After my daughter graduates (or if she decides to return to a brick and mortar school at some point), I will once again offer live classes on OS. Each session will be the same: Each class will start with a welcome and brief introductions. Next, I will demonstrate a division problem using either the Montessori Division Board or Stamp Game. If there are students who do not have Montessori materials, I will demonstrate using drawings on the virtual whiteboard (drawings will represent the Montessori materials). Finally, students will have a chance to solve problems using their own materials or on the virtual whiteboard. Guided help will be offered when necessary. When requested, students will be given follow-up problems and will be encouraged to solve those problems on paper, using drawings like we did on the Zoom whiteboard, or using tokens (see supply list).
Learning Goals
Students will deepen their understanding of long division.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Occasionally and depending upon student needs and interests, short YouTube videos to help reinforce math facts may be shared during class. While YouTube is not intended for visit and use by children under 13 (and thus a non-COPPA compliant resource), Outschool has developed a way for educators to use YouTube videos in their classes in a legally compliant way. All educators need to do is add the YouTube link to their Classroom Post – Outschool embeds the link on its platform so that learners remain on the Outschool platform and don’t access the YouTube website.
Supply List
All class work can be done on Zoom whiteboard. However, students may wish to have 81 tokens available to practice on their own outside of class. Tokens may be pennies, buttons, etc. If the student has their own Montessori Division Board or Stamp Game, they are encouraged to use them during this class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
