Class Experience

US Grade 6
This class will cover all the topics in grade 6 maths and will be customized as per student's needs. Topics can be learned in the desired order. I teach students at a pace that suits them and, also, finish the syllabus on time.

1. Ratios and Proportional Relationships

Understanding Ratios:
Define and understand the concept of a ratio.
Use ratio language to describe a relationship between two quantities.

Unit Rates:
Learn to compute and interpret unit rates associated with ratios of fractions.

Proportional Relationships:
Apply the concept of a unit rate to real-world problems.
Solve problems involving finding the whole given a part and the percent.

2. The Number System

Division of Fractions:
Interpret and compute quotients of fractions.
Solve word problems involving the division of fractions by fractions.

Operations with Multi-Digit Numbers:
Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation.

Integers:
Understand positive and negative numbers, and how they represent quantities.
Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line.
Interpret statements of inequality as statements about the relative position of two numbers on a number line.

3. Expressions and Equations

Algebraic Expressions:
Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.
Write expressions that record operations with numbers and letters standing for numbers.
Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.

Equations and Inequalities:
Understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of finding the value(s) of the variable that makes the equation or inequality true.
Represent and solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations and inequalities.

4. Geometry

Area, Surface Area, and Volume:
Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes.
Understand the concept of surface area and find the surface area of 3D figures.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area, and volume.

5. Statistics and Probability

Statistical Thinking:
Develop an understanding of statistical variability.
Summarize and describe distributions.

Data Analysis:
Display numerical data in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots.
Summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context.

6. Ratios, Percentages, and Rational Numbers

Percentages:
Use percentages to solve real-world problems.
Understand and solve problems involving percent increase, percent decrease, and discount.

Rational Numbers:
Understand and operate with rational numbers including fractions, decimals, and percentages.

7. Problem-solving and Critical Thinking

Problem-Solving:
Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to solve problems.
Develop fluency with problem-solving strategies and justify solutions.

Critical Thinking:
Analyze and model mathematical problems in multiple ways.
Reflect on and evaluate different problem-solving approaches.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to read, write, and round multi-digit whole numbers and decimals to any place value, demonstrating an understanding of how place value affects numerical precision.
Students will be able to identify and extend numerical patterns and sequences and explain the rule or pattern governing the sequence.
