US Grade 5 - 8
Concepts Covered: Gravity, motion, forces, energy, and simple machines. Explanation: Briefly introduce what physics is and how it helps us understand the natural world. Activity Stations- Station 1: Marble Roller Coasters Concepts Covered: Gravity, motion, and inertia. Key Learning Points: Gravity pulls the marble down the track. Inertia keeps the marble moving until it encounters an obstacle. Station 2: Balloon Rockets Concepts Covered: Newton’s third law of motion (action-reaction). Key Learning Points: The air pushing out of the balloon (action) pushes the balloon forward (reaction). Demonstrates Newton's third law: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Station 3: Simple Machines - Levers and Pulleys Concepts Covered: Simple machines, mechanical advantage. Key Learning Points: Levers and pulleys reduce the amount of force needed to lift objects. Simple machines provide mechanical advantages.
Learning Goals
Engage with Science in Everyday Life: By participating in practical activities, students will recognize the relevance of physics in everyday situations and be encouraged to explore further scientific inquiry.
Develop Scientific Thinking: Students will enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills by designing, conducting, and analyzing the results of experiments using common household items.
