Students will be encouraged to continue to create on TinkerCad and to discover how TinkerCad can be used to design for Minecraft. Older learners will also be encouraged to explore the library of 3D examples.Assessment
The teacher will help students identify strengths and weakness in their projects.Class Experience
In this exciting course learners will be oriented with TinkerCad 3D design software and learn the very basics of manipulating shapes to create something using the 3D design process. This TinkerCAD is the basic software that will build skills necessary to master more advanced and professional software such as Fusion 360 and AutoCAD. I am a teacher who values creativity and although I demonstrate how to build a house, learners are welcome to create their own designs using the skills I am teaching. Learners will first watch the teacher demonstrate the use of TinkerCad. Next students will have time to tinker with the program and ask questions. Next the teacher will assign a project and show a completed example. Finally students will design their own details for the project to make it their own. TinkerCad is compatible with many 3D printers, and although actually printing the projects is outside the scope of this class, students are encouraged to find a 3D printer and actually print their projects. There will be an overview of the best practices in designing for 3D printing to help learners understand what makes a project printable or just for design. In order to participate in this class students will need to attend on a PC laptop or desktop. A TinkerCad account will need to be created with parent permission before the class starts and learners will need to be logged in prior to the start of class. Chromebooks and Ipads will also work, however there are a few functions that are not compatible. When using an Ipad a keyboard is recommended, but not required as it allows a few more features to be used. I have taught students the basics of TinkerCad for several years as part of an interdisciplinary project at my brick and mortar school. I recently presented about this project at the Texas Computer Educators Association convention. I am so excited to share my knowledge and experience with TinkerCad here on Outschool with your learners! I really love teaching kids about technology and the Engineering design process. This project is a great way to get anyone interested in design and 3D printing.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to manipulate 3D shapes to create a model of a house using TinkerCad.

Parental Guidance
There are a lot of items in the library of 3D designs. Because the library is open source it is similar to a google search in that something unexpected could pop up. Please discuss with your learner before the start of class appropriate things to search for and what to do if something unexpected comes up. (close the browser and log back into a fresh TinkerCad page.
Supply List
Students may need parent approval to create an account on https://www.tinkercad.com/ and will need to be logged in before class starts. TinkerCAD is COPPA Compliant resource see this article for more information: https://blog.tinkercad.com/2013/07/30/whats-up-with-education-accounts. If a temporary account is needed while waiting for a parent-approved account for kids under 13 please message me for information. These temporary accounts will be deleted without notice frequently to ensure student safety and to comply with Outschool standards. Paper and pencils are often useful for sketching ideas.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Mrs. Fimbel has taught thousands of students over the last 10 years and is adept at smoothing over the unexpected. However, it is always best of parents give a little reminder prior to the start of class.
Mrs. Fimbel has taught TinkerCad to elementary students for several years and recently presented TinkerCad to teachers in conjunction with a Board Game design project at the Texas Computer Educators Association convention.
