This will be a weekly class that will go indefinitely! Students will have the opportunity to dive deeply into the field of forensic science. We'll go over the timetable listed below. We'll also talk about recent incidents in which forensic files have been used to help solve crimes. This will allow students to discuss relevant situations and apply critical thinking to see if they can solve a real-life problem. Topics we will be going over: Week of Feb. 18 -The basics of forensic science (what is it?) Week of Feb. 25 Digital forensics Week of Mar 4 - Forensic DNA Week Mar 11 -Splatter Analysis Week Mar 18-Identifying Teeth Week Mar 25-Ballistics Week Apr.1- Will not meet due to Christmas Eve Week April 8-Digital evidence Week April 15 -Drugs & toxicology Week April 22 -Trace evidence Week April 29-Fingerprints Week May 4 - Famous cases Week May 11-Current or recent cases Week May 18- Technology tracing We will be using lecture slides with some videos. There will be pictures with blood as we will be analyzing crime scenes. If the day lands on a holiday class we will not have class! :) example: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter
Learning Goals
Students will learn each week the different fields within Forensics science and how they work.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Graphic images will be shown due to showing crime scenes and blood splatters. This may be sensitive to some viewers but it is important when learning about the different materials.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
