Class Experience

This class is conducted 100% in Spanish with very few English pauses/translations. Our main goal is conversation.

This is an ongoing conversation class. Students who enroll in this class should already be advanced in Spanish. You may have participated in a school based dual language program, immersion class, or already beyond a middle school /highschool level 2 class. You will need to be comfortable reading short sentences/questions and responding in Spanish.
While this class is mainly conversational- you can see a sample below of expected comprehension level. Much of our class time will be based around students speaking levels so it is important to confirm this class is right for your learner. This class is conducted 100% in Spanish with very few English pauses/translations.

What to expect:
1. We will begin discussion with fun and silly warm ups to encourage discussion and conversation.
2. We will read and discuss/respond to questions of the day.
3. As time allows, this will be followed by a quick grammar note or we will read a silly short story that the teacher has written and discuss various aspects of the story in Spanish. Again, the goal is to encourage conversation.

Each class may be followed up with grammar or writing opportunities for students to practice writing in Spanish at their own level. These are optional and posted in the classroom. For example, a story starter OR grammar exercises may be provided for continued practice outside of class.

During class I do provide assistance with unknown words, correct some verb tenses and may provide mini lessons if the group as a whole struggles with certain conjugations. My main goal is to encourage further speaking, and opportunities for further reading and writing.

No books are required for the class. Teacher written stories, public domain stories and discussion prompts are used. This material will not build upon itself. Each class will contain a different warm up, or story, and extension activity so that you may join at any time. It is meant to provide continued practice or engagement in the language for students already comfortable speaking and reading in Spanish. If you have questions about placement please message and read the provided sample below for placement purposes.

Esta es una clase de conversación para los niños bilingües. Tienen que ser avanzado en español. Vamos a hablar y discutir completamente en español.
Primero tenemos algunos chistes o adivinanzas, luego contestamos algunas preguntas del día. Al final si tenemos tiempo practicamos algunos verbos o leemos un cuento en español escrito por la maestra. Yo ayudo con algunas palabras y conducimos nuestras clases completamente en español.

While the level of the class is mainly driven by the learners conversation skills, here is a sample story for placement purposes of what a learner should be able to comprehend:

Translation for parent ( There is a girl. The girl lives in the woods and has many pets. Her name is Julia. She is 11 years old and very curious. She has a wolf, a raccoon and a crow. The wolf's name is Tom. The raccoon's name is Tony and the crow is named Black.
One day she walks in the woods with her pets. There are many trees and plants and lakes in the woods. Tony and Tom like to play hide and seek a lot. Tom hides behind a tree trunk and Tony hides behind a giant mushroom. The crow likes to fly and so he can see where Tony and Tom are hiding. One time when he flies the crow sees a coyote. The coyote is hungry and runs to eat Tony. The crow shouts Caw Caw and says don't eat him to the coyote. The girl hears the shouts and runs to see what happened. The coyote is scared of the girl and leaves the pets alone and leaves the woods running. )

***Please note I want all students to feel comfortable and free to converse and respond at their level with myself and others without judgement or criticism. Therefore for the privacy of learners and due to the fact that this is largely a conversation class, I do not release videos of this class. Thank you for understanding.
