Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
This class is designed for learners that are new to Spanish or have participated in some Spanish classes previously that are comfortable with a STORY TELLING method. We will use an immersion approach as much as possible where students will work with a small set of vocabulary and we will speak, read, and listen in the target language. It is taught in an ongoing school-year format with me, the same certified teacher each class.

Each class will consist of a variety of warm ups with pictures and vocabulary. We will work on sentence building with our story words and then we will move on to reading a very short, silly story with the vocabulary. The students and I will be acting out and drawing the story to aid in complete comprehension of the short text. All of the stories stand alone and you can join at any time. We will cover basic vocabulary, sentence and short story structures. We take time for each student to participate orally and answer questions. Vocabulary cards, and student handouts are provided after class. I provide many extra opportunities for students to practice and interact in the classroom on off days.

To start out students will need paper, markers, pencils or crayons. There is no prerequisite to join this class but it will be important for students to have a basic reading and writing level in their first language. An adult nearby would be essential for the youngest learners. If your learner is uncomfortable with the story telling method, I suggest taking my Beginners Spanish where we only focus on building vocabulary and sentence structures.
If your learner is ready for a faster pace with story telling I suggest taking my intermediate level Spanish or Middle School Spanish as we will cover present tense verbs in that class as well.

I have 20+ years of experience differentiating instruction on a regular basis. I have undergone rigorous training to perfect these methods allowing me to offer ongoing classes that cater to new students or returning students.

You can join at any time. Each class is designed to stand alone but we will circle back a lot to review and practice the same vocabulary for several weeks. Since this is an ongoing class I add dates one to two months in advance.

Please note, I may run over about 5 minutes so if you need to get to another class please do not worry. We use that time to wrap things up or catch anything a student wants to share.

Sample schedule includes these titles. Each class opens with a brief time to share about news, and weather followed by Vocabulary discussion. Story telling with props and drawings and comprehension questions. Story titles are posted below

Week 1 of Sept 11th- El gato va despacio-
Sept 18th- El elefante tiene pizza
Sept 25th- Sentence builders with popular verbs
October- El bebe y la pizza
