This course covers second semester Spanish Level 1. We utilize a story telling approach to integrate vocabulary while also including various opportunities for students to practice and apply new vocabulary from required texts.

Homework
1-2 hours per week. During and after the video, students will complete a packet created by the teacher to enhance their comprehension of sentences and stories. They will also be assigned pages from a required text. In addition they will practice vocabulary on quizlet weekly and take a quiz at the end of each week. A midterm and one final test will review all class material. It is suggested that learners spend one day in class, one day on quizlet, one day completing the packet, one day completing Daily Spanish workbook. This is only a suggestion.
Assessment
Weekly quizlet quizzes are part of the vocabulary practice. In addition students will complete one midterm and final assessment via google forms.
Grading
Please inform the teacher if you would like a grade or certificate of completion for this class. Grades and certificates can only be provided for learners that complete all of the required assignments. The teacher will keep a record of completed assignments and quiz/test scores. The learner or parent should request the grade or certificate of completion. If a grade is expected the learner will have to complete all required assignments. Please inform the teacher at the start of the class if you would like a detailed grade report or certificate.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner Level
This is a complete semester two Level 1 Spanish class.  Learners taking this course can expect to learn Spanish in an integrated format.  

Learners will learn how to compose and comprehend complete sentences in Spanish from day one.  Semester 2 focuses heavily on present tense verbs.  

We utilize a story telling approach to ensure that learners can not only apply vocabulary to short sentences, but also read and write fluently in Spanish.  Props, drawings, flashcards, word banks, and workbooks are used on a regular basis.  

The video portion of the class will focus on the story of the week as well as review of the homework and practiced vocabulary. 

Students are required to purchase and complete weekly assignments from My Daily Spanish- Spanish Workbook for Middle School and High School Students which correlates to current state standards.  This text includes free audio downloads to use while you complete the lessons.  

A learning packet will also be provided for students to use during the video portions of the class as well as will contain assignments for the week.  

Learners will use quizlet weekly to practice new vocabulary.  Short quizzes will be completed.  

I will also provide suggested practice games/activities from sites such as studyspanish.com, 123teachme.com, spanishlearninglab.com, spanishplayground.com, pandatree.com .  These activities require parent permission to access and are only suggested links for practice.  They do not require a login.  

We use some stories from the Cuentame Mas TPRS Curriculum for level 1 Spanish.   I have obtained permission to teach these stories in class.  

Students who complete all of the homework assignments are eligible to receive a grade for this class.  I will provide a certificate of completion upon request.  

Students who take Part 1 & 2 can be eligible for a full 1 credit Spanish certificate.  Those who complete one semester with a passing score will be eligible for a .5 credit.  Please note as a certified teacher I can provide a grade, but it's ultimately the parents responsibility to issue the credit and final grade on a transcript.

Lesson 1:
Refresher from Semester 1
 Story and vocabulary provided will serve as a refresher from semester one.  Outside work from our Spanish Workbook includes a focus on verb review.

 This week we continue to focus on using simple sentences in the context of a simple story, adding new vocabulary to the stories.  We use props and illustrations to to check for comprehension as well as question words.  Outside work from our Spanish Workbook includes a focus on the verb tener.

Week 3
 This week we continue to focus on using simple sentences in the context of a simple story, adding new vocabulary to the stories.  We use props and illustrations to to check for comprehension as well as question words.  Outside work from our Spanish Workbook includes a focus on prepositions and the house vocabulary.

Week 4
 This week we continue to focus on using simple sentences in the context of a simple story, adding new vocabulary to the stories.  We use props and illustrations to to check for comprehension as well as question words.  Outside work from our Spanish Workbook includes a focus on forming the present progressive tense.

Learning Needs
Learners may partcipate in a variety of ways including orally, via chat, with drawing tools. Visuals are always provided as well as word banks. Course work schedule can be modified to meet learner needs.
Parental Guidance

This is the second semester of Spanish 1. Completion of semester 1 or some basic Spanish is required. Please message teacher if you are unsure.

For ESA/scholarship purposes please note that I hold a degree in Education grades k-9 with certifications and minors in English, Math, Spanish, I have a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Bilingual Bicultural education, and certifications in Spanish as a second language, English as a second language, and Bilingual Spanish.  I have been teaching this course since 2012 and a bilingual teacher since 2002!   I am certified to teach Spanish as a foreign language grades k-12.  My certificate is availanle in Illinois and Wisconsin public records.
