Assessment
Learner progress will be assessed by the teacher daily during each lesson as she sees that students are becoming comfortable, independent and fluent in their reading. Comprehension will be monitored regularly through questions and answers as well as activities on the slides that require students to demonstrate understanding. Writing will improve as students keep a regular journal that will show their progression over time. Parents can also assess their own child's progress as they become more independent during their participation in class, their own independent reading, as well as how they are using learned information and reading techniques outside of class.

Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
▬▬▬▬▬▬ ⭐Course Overview⭐ ▬▬▬▬▬▬
In this ongoing English class, students will have the opportunity to improve their reading skills at the beginner level. We will focus on a new story each week from Levels A, B and C of the Reading A-Z series. These stories will follow the adventures of children, animals, and other fictional characters as they explore the world around them. Topics will include family, home, school, the park, the zoo, friends, pets, the store, and more. Students will gain vocabulary and understanding that they can use to make useful connections to their everyday lives.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ 👩‍🏫Teaching Style👩‍🏫 ▬▬▬▬▬▬
This class will consist of letter activities, vocabulary review, story reading, comprehension, and writing practice. The instructor will teach completely from slides to ensure that students can clearly see the content being presented. Some writing will be on the screen, which will require students to access their writing tools on their computer via the Zoom annotation function. Some writing will require paper, pencil, crayons, and/or markers at home.

The course is designed to make reading enjoyable, and students will delve into each adventure in a fun way by talking about what is happening, exploring curiosities throughout the stories, and relating what they learn to their own experiences. Students will interact with their instructor and classmates continuously throughout the lesson through talking, writing, reading, and completing activities on the slides.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🌍Target Student🌍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬
This course is ideal for beginning readers who display the following skills: recognize and name letters, identify the front cover, turn pages one by one, show how text progresses left to right, top to bottom, know some sounds of frequently seen or previously taught letters, identify and produce an increasing number of sounds, particularly consonant sounds and short vowels, recognize environmental print in context, attempt to track print with their finger in books and other texts, begin to play with words, identify a rhyming pair when presented with choices, count syllables in words, and have listening comprehension that exceeds reading comprehension.

This course will use detailed pictures that add to the story, short declarative sentences, repetitive patterns, repeated vocabulary, natural, familiar language, large print, wide letter spacing, familiar concepts, and limited text per page.

At the end of our four weeks of lessons, we will cycle back to the beginning. Students are welcome to join and leave at any time, as there is no previous information needed in order to succeed in the current week’s lesson. If you’d like to know exactly what week we are in (and that week’s topic), please send us a message to inquire.
