Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 12
-----> *** All my classes are available in Spanish upon request *** In this one time private class, we will be discussing what makes Earth so special, unique and irreplaceable - all from an astronomical perspective. In order to explain this, we will talk about the Earth's atmosphere, what are the greenhouse gases and why should we keep them balanced. In addition, we will compare Venus, Earth and Mars' atmospheres; introduce the concepts of the speed of light and light-year; define the milky way galaxy, our solar system within it, and what are exoplanets; and we will finish the class reviewing selected quotes from astronauts who have had the privilege of observing planet Earth from far away in space and how this experience has impacted them. This class will be taught as a guided conversation using a power point as a support for the images. There is no previous knowledge requirement. All the concepts introduced during class will be thoroughly explained. Because this class is private, we will have time to address any questions learner might have, and expand on their particular points of interest. Learner may bring a pencil and paper, or colors. At the end of the class, they will be invited to write a letter to their future selves. In the message, they can draw or write how they wish to see the planet in the future and what steps are they going to take to see planet Earth as they wish it to be for generations to come. Class may be offered in English or Spanish.
Learning Goals
The goal of this class is for Learner to discover how marvelous planet Earth is by understanding, through a simple introduction, its many complexities within the larger universe, laying the foundations for basic varied astronomical concepts.
